I have worked with some of the most important doctors and scientists in the field of longevity medicine and have studied for nearly 300 hours with the world famous anti-ageing doctor, Dr Thierry Hertoghe. Anti-ageing medicine uses safe, effective therapies that focus on the underlying causes of ageing. The goal is not to prolong the life to an unrealistic age, but to promote successful ageing - staying functional and healthy up to the end of a long, vital and productive life. I attended the American Institute's inaugural AFMCP training in London in 2011 and use the Functional Medicine approach in all of my work. The Functional Medicine model is an individualised, patient-centred, science-based approach that empowers patients and practitioners to work together to address the underlying causes of disease and promote optimal wellness. It requires a detailed understanding of each patient’s genetic, biochemical, and lifestyle factors and leverages that data to direct personalised treatment plans that lead to improved patient outcomes.

Trained at the celebrated Institute of Allergy and Environmental therapy, I have received much notoriety working within this modality. I have had great success in this field both with environmental problems such as hayfever as well as treating food intolerances and allergies. The patient will be put on a staged desensitisation programme, allowing the individual to eat a normal, healthy diet without having to adhere to an unnecessarily restrictive, tedious diet.

This is a whole area of study which looks into the interaction of lifestyle factors and genetic expression in healthspan. Looking at the multitude of factors that can influence how our genes are expressed, we are able to work with our genes to optimise health. We do not have to suffer the diseases that run in our families. With the correct plan in place, one can eliminate symptoms and optimise physical and mental health - ultimately rewriting our genetic destiny.
